![]() Back Alley. 2001. graphite, photographic emulsion, moulding paste, acrylic, oil on gallery-wrap canvas. 27 1/4" wide x 41 1/4" high x 1 1/2" deep. $855 (includes shipping throughout continental USA) This painting depicts the backsides of buildings from the perspective of an alley. Various media are layered to simultaneously conceal and reveal different aspects of the scene. One can see glimpses of the initial graphite sketch in some areas, the brighter planes of color in the acrylic washes, and the details of both the photographic elements and those painted in oils. A photograph of the actual buildings was projected and developed right on the canvas, using liquid photographic emulsion. Because of the multi-layers and the glossy sheen of the Damar varnish, this canvas is very reflective. Therefore I chose to show a reproduction of the painting straight on, as well as from an angle. |
